Holiday-ish: Day 12

Do you know how to use an egg and tissue paper to make a festive pinecone holiday ornament?

Me neither.

But, to cap off our week of holiday crafts, I know where you can learn.

Creativebug – FREE (for some); Annual Subscription $99

Started and run by women, Creativebug has over 1,000 online classes and a strong community who subscribe to their motto “You’re more creative than you think.” In addition to lessons, they feature a Daily Practice section with 5-10 minute exercises and projects for creative inspiration. They offer paid subscriptions but it’s worth checking with your local library as many provide Creativebug to their cardholders for free.

Craftsy – Some content free; Annual Subscription $80

Craftsy has over 1,300 craft classes and a messy backstory that saw them re-launch this fall. That’s good news for crafters – a quick search will find their annual subscription offered for as little as $2.49 as they build up their Craftsy then Bluprint back to Craftsy brand.

Skillshare – FREE Level; Premium subscription removes ads and gives access to downloads

There are plenty of craft and creative classes on Skillshare as well as business-type courses like computer coding or entrepreneurship. Classes range from Skillshare Originals produced by the company and those created by individuals who upload their courses to the site and they earn money when you watch them. The Free Level lets you watch many of the classes but you’ll be subject to ads and the inability to download course materials. The annual fee is $99 for unlimited access.

Creative Live – Annual Subscription $150

The most expensive of the options, this site has plenty of craft classes but their main business is geared more to those in creative fields like photography and design. If you’re looking to make crafting your profession, there are plenty of nuts and bolts courses on mastering marketing and social media. Classes can be purchased individually but if you like what you see and want more access, the annual Creative Pass is a better deal.
