Today on Amazon for $1.99: Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff.
Lotto and Mathilde meet in college and fall madly in love. They begin their lives in New York in the 1990s where Lotto pursues acting while Mathilde works in an art gallery to support them. When one drunken night Lotto writes a masterpiece of a play, their fortunes turn and Mathilde quits her job to attend to her husband’s career.
In the first half of the book, Fates, we see their relationship from Lotto’s perspective. In the second half, Furies, we get Mathilde’s story, which upends many of the things we were told by Lotto. And believe me, Mathilde is furious.
You will not always love these characters, but you will appreciate learning their story, then learning it again from a different perspective.
