The folks at Rockefeller Plaza struck the perfect note when they selected this tree for the 2020 holiday season.
America’s most famous Christmas tree, a 75-foot tall Norway Spruce from Oneonta, New York, was chopped down on Monday, Nov. 9 and trucked to Rockefeller Plaza, where it was set up three days later. Tonight is the official tree-lighting ceremony, which for the first time ever is a ticketed event.
While the tree’s shape should surprise no one given how this year has gone so far, it did hold one magical surprise: a tiny owl, which a worker found trapped among the branches. Named Rockefeller, or Rocky for short, the owl (which was thought to be a male but turned out to be female) survived the 170-mile trip from upstate in good shape. She was relocated to a Hudson Valley wildlife center to recover, and last Tuesday was released back into the wild — proving that even the most Charlie Brown of trees holds holiday surprises for us all.
